2017 SC NAACP Woman of the Year

I, Robin Massey Kirk, am a candidate for South Carolina Woman of the Year 2017, sponsored yearly by branches of the NAACP, our nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization. Women from branches throughout the state compete for the title of Woman of the Year. The winner turns in the highest amount of money, which supports the efforts of the NAACP. My fundraising goal is $15,000 in order to win the title.
I am an active member of the Lancaster Community. Presently, I work in my hometown as a Pre-K 4 teacher at Southside Early Childhood Center. I have nine years’ experience in education, having worked in both Virginia and North Carolina. At my home church, Steele AMEZ, my activities include president of the Buds of Promise and coordinator of our Relay for Life team. I serve on the Executive Board of the NAACP and am a member of the Political Action and Freedom Fund committees.
Our Branch continues to advocate for equal rights for all human beings. The Branch has presented regular Town Hall Meetings, including local and state political candidates’ forums, and has addressed discrimination issues in a timely manner with local residents. We register voters, transport them to the polls, monitor voter regulations on Election Day, and are currently receiving technology training to identify and register unregistered voters. We strive to implement the agendas of our state and national officials.
I would consider it an honor to become the 2017 NAACP South Carolina Woman of the Year. However, I am earnestly engaged in this endeavor to support an organization whose mission is to guarantee that all citizens receive equal protection under the law. The winner is announced at the South Carolina State Freedom Fund Celebration in May 2017. Seventy-five percent (75%) of the profits will remain with the Branch, and 25% will be donated to the National Office. The winner receives a complimentary trip to the NAACP Image Awards. How exciting!
