Wayne

Larry Wayne Evans, Jr.... Uncle Wayne... Big Game Wayne... I'm pretty sure he's also had some nicknames that highlight his fairly large cranium: Headstone, Heady & LG, to name a few.

My brother is a lot of things to a lot of people. But regardless of how you reference Wayne, if you know him, you know he is a fiercely loyal, incredibly hard-working & fun-loving man of integrity. He empathizes with those who are struggling. He encourages the disheartened. When he sees an opportunity to help, he adopts the burdens of others as his own & takes action.

Well, now it's our turn to help Wayne.

On Friday, December 16, 2016 around 11am, Wayne suffered a massive stroke. Obviously, this came as a tremendous shock - not only to Wayne, but also to his family & friends. This extremely health-conscious, physically fit 41 year old was rendered incapacitated by a minute blood clot.

Several of us have been by his side day & night, offering all the love, support & encouragement we have. This first week of the healing process has been an immense challenge. But it looks as though the biggest challenge lies ahead.

As of Christmas Day, Wayne is still paralyzed on the entire left side of his body. He struggles to speak clearly or even swallow properly. To be perfectly honest, the damage done as a result of his stroke is extensive... but, hope is not lost. We need not write him off as never being the same again. Already there have been signs of tremendous potential with the feeling of pain, & some minor involuntary movement, on his left side. These early indicators, combined with Wayne's age & level of physical fitness before the stroke, point towards the promise of complete recovery IF HE GETS THE QUALITY, INTENSE THERAPY THAT HE NEEDS.

This is the monster of a challenge I mentioned: the therapy is extensive & quite expensive. Unfortunately, Wayne is not covered by any insurance. We're continuing to seek out any & all options; as it stands, we have no means by which to provide him the Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy that will bring back his functionality.

So, right now, this is our top priority. We are truly blessed Wayne is here with us on Christmas. This is a gift for which we are abundantly grateful. Our desire is that we can pool together & give Wayne the gift of hope - the hope of walking again; of picking up and playing with his 5 year old niece again; of embracing us in both of his arms again; of enjoying the abilities we all take for granted daily.

The potential is there. Please consider helping him reach that potential by donating to this endeavor. Of course, if you can't help financially, we completely understand. Whatever the case, please continue to pray for Wayne as he heads down this very, very long road to recovery.

Thank you... With love from,
His grateful family
