Bringing Care to the Thailand Hill Tribe

Hello!
My name is Andrea Garza, and this April 2014 I plan to make my first out-of country trip with fellow medical students from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. This trip is with the Naturopaths Without Borders, an organization who's vision is to provide Naturopathic health care to impoverished communities, while empowering those communities through education, supporting growth and cultivating sustainable resources.
Our volunteer mission is to support the "Where There Is No Doctor' in the hill-tribes" organization, which is a volunteer run, non-profit medical social organization in Thailand helping the poor, underprivileged and marginalized hill-tribe communities of Northern Thailand.
I will be working and volunteering primarily in two sub-districts of Chiang Ria and working with Dr. Mar to provide free medical treatment, building toilets and clean water supply, and do many other social activities to engage and interact with children and village members. For many there is no doctor or health worker and, moreover, as 60% are without National ID they are unable to visit hospitals, clinics and health care centres in Thai society. Those that do have ID do not have the money to get the best medical support and are often given medicines which are little more than placebos having no effect.Through our continued efforts, the communities we serve are able to live a healthier and better quality of life.
As a life-long student, I would like to extend a request of support as I embark on my first out-of country trip to assist the hill-tribe communities and further enrich my medical school experiences and to bring health to villages in need.
